Today the State of Kentucky is known in its own right as the home of great Bourbon, fast horses, and Wildcats, but when Benjamin Logan first settled here in the Spring of 1775 the place we call "The Bluegrass" today was still just a county in the vast Virginia Colony. Back then a settler had two clear goals: lay claim to a piece of land and survive.
Agriculture was key to the accomplishment of both of these tasks. In fact, when Logan planted a couple rows of corn on what is today the Courthouse lawn he not only ensured his survival for the coming winter, under Colonial Law he now had a legitimate claim on the land. Using the materials from his original cabin, in the following years Logan and his family built a gristmill and a fort strong enough to withstand the ever-present threat of Native American raids. Originally dubbed Logan's Station, the community that grew up around this "standing fort" was chartered as the county seat of Lincoln, one of the three original counties in Kentucky, as Stanford.
Fast forward to nearly two and a half centuries later and agriculture is still a way of life for many in Stanford and Lincoln County. In the fields and rolling hills where settlers like Logan once cultivated mostly corn, now one can find a diverse agribusiness economy in which hardworking people sow soy beans, cut tobacco, and raise herds of cattle.
Now, the home of Kentucky's first Governor, America's first counterclockwise horse racing track, and the first brick building West of the Alleghenies, Lincoln County is adding yet another claim to the title, "The Land of Firsts" as the site of Kentucky Fresh Harvest, the first high-technology greenhouse of its kind in the state!
Lincoln County's rich heritage rooted in traditional agriculture makes it the perfect place for our Company to build its first project in the state. At Kentucky Fresh Harvest our mission is to bring Kentucky into the next generation of agriculture without leaving behind the hardworking men and women that are the backbone of this State's agribusiness economy.
Funded by local investors, Kentucky Fresh Harvest is a 13.5 million dollar investment in the future of Lincoln County and Kentucky. Once complete, the 30 acre facility on the North side of Stanford will grow produce 365 days a year, through every season, to be sold on the national wholesale market. To meet the national retailers' high demand for niche vegetable items such as cherry tomatoes, this facility will employ approximately 60-75 people from Lincoln County and the surrounding areas to plant, pick, pack, ship, and manage the facility full-time and year round.
With the expertise and experience of our exceptional agronomists, Kentucky Fresh Harvest will become the shining example of 21st century controlled environment agricultural methods and technology at work in the Bluegrass State. Lincoln County is the proving ground on which we will show the rest of the State that the "future of farming" truly is here, and here to stay.
Kentucky Fresh Harvest, LLC is the Lincoln County “project company” owned by Kentucky Hi Tech Greenhouses LLC and private investors from the area.
With our multi-national team’s technological prowess and decades of agricultural experience on our side, Kentucky Fresh Harvest will be in operation year round - annually producing between 3 and 4 million pounds of cherry tomatoes for sale on the national wholesale market.
With the full support of Stanford and Lincoln County's officials, State support in the form of tax incentives, and additional funding provided by CoBank and Farm Midland Credit Union, Kentucky Fresh Harvest is ready to bring Kentucky into the next generation of agriculture.
